Biography & Class Description
Peter Schabel has taught in New York since 1983 in such schools as BDC, Harkness Ballet School, Steps, Theater Dance and The David Howard Dance Center, where he also directed both the scholarship training and young students programs. He has been a guest teacher for Dance Masters of America, Professional Dance Teachers Association, the Dance Teachers Club of Boston and others. In 1992, Peter was the first guest teacher and coach brought in for the Broadway production of Cats. Such luminaries as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova, Gelsey Kirkland, Rudolph Nureyev, Darci Kistler, Mary Tyler Moore and Bebe Neuwirth have taken class with Peter.
Ballet
This challenging class is designed to promote musicality and kinetic awareness, and is ideal for jazz and modern dancers, advanced adults and students alike. Ballet pedagogy is taught with an understanding of bio-mechanics, physics and kinesiology to guide the student to full movement potential. Emphasis is placed on expanded classical vocabulary, posture, placement, timing and concentration.
