Irene Kent
Irene Kent has 20 years of experience in dance teaching as well as performing. She is trained in classic ballet as well as in musical theatre dance. Irene attended Point Park University School for Performing Arts where she received her BA degree in Performance. Irene has performed on Broadway, nationally and internationally in such shows as West Side Story, A Chorus Line and Cole Porter`s review. Some of her ballet credits include; The Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburg Ballet Theater and the American Dance Ensemble. Irene has performed in numerous other venues throughout the United States, China, Japan and throughout central Europe. Irene is currently teaching and privately coaching ballet through-out the tri-state area. She is also a certified Pilates instructor.
Adult Beginner Ballet
This adult class is explores the foundations of ballet in a fun, active environment. Students will gain a progressively larger understanding of ballet fundamentals, which when combined togethere creates "dance." Class sessions will include barre work, center floor, adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro and grande allegro. Emphasis is placed on correct body alignment and use of terminology. Students will work on dance combinations to improve technical skill, memory and performance.
Adult Beginner Pointe
This class explores the foundations of Pointe in a fun, active environment. Students will gain a progressively larger understanding of the fundamentals of pointe work. Emphasis is placed on correct body alignment and use of terminology. Students will work on basic pointe ecercises at the barre and basic combinations in the center to improve technical skill, memory and performance. Class sessions will include barre work, center floor, adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro and grande allegro.

Class will consist of 1.5 hours of technique and .5 hour of basic pointe and include:

The Seven Movements of Dance: plie, entendre, releve, saute, elancer, glissade and tourner
Class Participation
Course Outline:
Each week the class will learn to demonstrate and execute one of the seven basic movement`s of ballet. These are plie (to bend), entendre (to stretch), releve (to rise), saute (to jump), elancer (to dart), glissade (to glide) and tourner (to turn). As the class progresses we will be combining these seven classic movements into patterns which form the fundamentals of dance. Students will also learn to identify classical ballet movements in adagio, petit allegro and grand allegro.
The objectives:
To learn and execute each of the seven movements of classical ballet
To begin to combine these movements and to appreciate the basis of dance
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to identify and demonstrate beginner level movements of elementary ballet and gain appreciation of the sequences that make dance. Specific outcomes are: communicate using appropriate dance terminology, demonstrate the appropriate anatomical ballet positions, gain coordination in loco motor and axial movements and demonstrate memorization and reproduction of ballet sequences.
